What accessories do you need for a lease bicycle?
If you choose a lease bicycle, you've made a good choice: you effortlessly whizz to work, save on petrol costs and enjoy fresh air for free. But you need a few more things than just the lease bicycle alone. To ensure your rides are comfortable and safe, there are a few accessories you shouldn't overlook. Time to upgrade your favourite two-wheeler.
🔒 A good lock: keep your bicycle under lock and key
You can get everywhere with your lease bicycle, but what if it goes missing? That's not pleasant. A sturdy lock is therefore no unnecessary luxury. Choose a lock with security class ART-2 type U, Sold Secure Diamond or security level 10. Will you go for a chain lock, a folding lock or an old-fashioned U-lock? As long as the bicycle stays where it is, you can rest assured. Want to know more about how to properly secure your bicycle? You can read all about it on our blog.
👜 A pannier: for all your stuff
Whether you want to take your laptop, lunch or waterproofs with you, a good pannier is a must. Go for waterproof panniers, so you don't arrive at your destination with soggy sandwiches after a downpour. Want to really make an impression? Choose a trendy backpack that you can also attach to your luggage carrier. Multifunctional.
💡 Lighting: shine a light on your safety
Without good lighting, you are like a ghost rider – and we don't want that. Make sure you have bright front and rear lights, preferably rechargeable via USB. That way, you'll never have to fiddle with loose batteries again. Bonus point: you'll also look flashy. Want even more useful tips for cycling safely in the dark? We have 7 tips for you.
⛑️ A bicycle helmet: the most important thing
Okay, not everyone is a fan of bicycle helmets. But these days they are stylish, lightweight and even equipped with lights. Protecting your head is a good idea, especially if you often share the road with cars. Tip: choose a helmet that is also rainproof, that will save you from a wet hairdo.
And what if you ride a speed pedelec? Then an approved helmet is even mandatory. Want to know what else you need when you take your speed pedelec out on the road? Then definitely read our checklist for every speed pedelec rider.
🚲 Mudguards: protect your trouser legs
Nothing is more annoying than arriving at your destination with a trail of mud splashed up your back. Mudguards prevent this and keep your clothes clean. No mudguards on your lease bicycle? You can easily buy clip-on versions that you can quickly attach and remove.
📱 Phone holder: navigate without hassle
With a phone holder, you no longer have the hassle of taking your smartphone out of your jacket pocket while cycling. Click your phone into a sturdy holder on your handlebars and follow your route without any risk of wobbling. But keep your eyes on the road for a safe ride.

🚴♂️ A comfortable saddle: sitting comfort is everything
Nothing is as important as a good saddle. Some lease bicycles have standard saddles that are perfectly fine, but if you travel longer distances every day, you might want to invest in an extra soft one. Bonus points if the saddle is filled with gel - for extra smooth rides.
🛡️ Protection against damage and theft: better safe than sorry
Okay, that's not technically an accessory, but it is essential. With protection against damage and theft of your bicycle, you don't have to worry if your bicycle is stolen or damaged. With o2o, your lease package always includes Bicycle Care Damage and Theft, and a replacement bicycle. You can supplement this with a maintenance budget of your choice for repairs and much more. Find out all about our services in this overview.
🔔 A bell: make sure they can hear you
Last but not least: a good bicycle bell. Whether you choose a classic ‘tring tring’ or a modern ping variant, make sure you are clearly audible. They're not only useful, but also mandatory. That way, you avoid fines and annoyance from other road users.
And the extra good news?
You can also include options and accessories that are attached to your bicycle in your lease package at a discount. Would you like to know which options and accessories you can also lease? You can read all about it on our help centre.
