Mail MatthiasWorking up a sweat, for our planet
You’re here to find out whether we really do care about the planet. Our answer: absolutely. What’s more, it’s woven into everything we do. Discover the projects here that mean a lot to us and show who we are.

The 5 goals we’re working flat out to achieve
Getting as many employees as possible to cycle to work
Extending the life of bicycles through circular economy and second-hand leasing
Lower CO₂ emissions
Making our colleagues absolutely delighted
Incorporating ESG into everything we do

We didn’t just come up with those five goals sitting at our computers. We listened to what matters to our colleagues, and to the insights of investors, customers and partners. That’s how we consciously choose goals that matter, that have broad support, and on which we can make real progress.
Eight colleagues from different teams are drawing up our ESG policy. By gathering input from different teams, we ensure that the policy:
“Sustainability is not a separate project alongside our work, but plays a part in shaping the choices we make.”

A few initiatives we’re proud of
Already got 94,000 employees cycling to work
And all this in the space of ten years. That’s already 94,000 people who are using their cars less often.
And all this in the space of ten years. That’s already 94,000 people who are using their cars less often. And we’re doing everything we can to increase that number. For example, we have an engagement team that’s looking into how we can encourage employees even more to choose to cycle. Our goal? To have 100,000 o2o lease bikes on Belgian roads by 2028.
”We were the first Belgian company to be awarded a gold Cycle Friendly Employer certificate. This is a European accreditation for cycle-friendly employers. And investing in cycling culture and infrastructure really pays off. After all, 80 per cent of our colleagues cycle to work.”

Already kept more than 3,000 bikes in circulation for longer
How can we make sure bikes last longer?
How can we make sure bikes last longer?
- Encourage preventive maintenance to prevent parts from breaking down.
- Our social partners prepare bikes, that are returned at the end of their lease, for a new user, so that they can keep on rolling for many years to come.
- Thanks to our extensive network of second-hand lease bikes, we are making circular mobility possible on a large scale.
”To repair bikes at the end of the lease period and get them ready for a new user, we work with partners from the social economy, such as E-bis. In this way, we combine sustainability with social impact: less waste, more job opportunities, and a bike that keeps on riding.”
- The first bicycle leasing company to offer second-hand lease bicycles
- 2024: launch with the first 18 units ⇒ 58 according to Amber’s figures & 466 on sale
- 2025: a significant leap towards 530
- 2026: already 563, and still counting…
- A year later, in 2025, this figure rose significantly to 500 second-hand lease bikes and no fewer than 950 units for sale. For 2026, we are aiming for 50 per cent growth compared with 2025.

CO2? Get rid of it.
Keeping our CO₂ emissions under control as a growing business? That’s a challenge we’re only too happy to take on.
Keeping our CO₂ emissions under control as a growing business? That’s a challenge we’re only too happy to take on. Here’s what we’ve already done:
- Planting trees
- Electrifying our (very small) fleet
- Identifying where we can still reduce our CO₂ emissions
- Encouraging employees to opt for more sustainable transport
- Switching to 100% locally produced and green energy via Ecopower
”As a bicycle leasing company, we have the opportunity to inspire a huge number of organisations to reduce their CO₂ emissions by encouraging their employees to cycle to work. We’re seizing that opportunity with both hands, and that’s how the MEAs came about.”
As well as taking on the challenge ourselves, we encourage our customers to do the same. Every year, we present the MEAs (the Mega-Prestigious ESG Awards). These are awards for customers who are making a difference on the bicycle. Think of customers with the most second-hand bikes, the highest proportion of employees cycling to work, or the strongest growth in cycling.

Partners in the social economy
We care not only about the planet, but also about the people who live on it.
We care not only about the planet, but also about the people who live on it. Wherever possible, we therefore work with partners from the social economy. In this way, we give opportunities to people who face greater difficulties in the mainstream labour market.
Our partners:
- E-bis
- Ateljee
- Fietsambassade
“We don’t simply choose the cheapest or quickest partner. If a partner from the social economy can do the job just as well, we give them that opportunity. In this way, we support people who are distanced from the labour market. For us, this isn’t an extra effort, but a standard decision.”

Valuing people and helping them to grow
Did you know we have a brilliant HR team?
Did you know we have a brilliant HR team? We certainly do. And thanks to their policies, we make a difference to everyone who works here or comes here to learn. From training programmes and transparent pay to unlimited leave, flexible working hours and internships for everyone.
We even have a baanbrekende werkgevers certificate. What does that mean? It means we’re an employer that prioritises trust, independence, flexibility, inclusivity and a healthy dose of enthusiasm amongst our colleagues.
”At o2o, everyone is given the space to do what they’re good at. Over the past few years, two students from GO! Campus Impuls, a school for special needs secondary education, have been working with us. One of those students was Max. He has an autism spectrum disorder and was able to gain experience and build confidence at his own pace whilst working with us.”
How we make sure everyone feels good:
- A substantial training budget for employees
- Unlimited paid leave and flexible working hours
- Learning opportunities for pupils at St. Gregorius
