Vrij CLB Ghent got on board with o2o: “I didn’t expect everything to go so smoothly”
In December 2024, Vrij CLB launched bicycle leasing through o2o Bicycle Leasing. Business Director Katrien Van Steen expected a lot of research and administration, but it turned out to be surprisingly manageable. “We chose convenience and user-friendliness.”

It’s great that you offer bicycle leasing to your employees. What made you choose it?
Ruben: “First and foremost, we want to avoid unnecessary kilometres by car. I’m convinced that cycling contributes to mental and physical resilience. It also makes us more attractive as an employer next to organisations that do not offer bicycle leasing. And colleagues who already commute by bicycle? They see it as a nice bonus: they can use their end-of-year bonus to lease a (better) bicycle that they might not otherwise have bought.”
Why did you choose o2o?
Ruben: “Another CLB centre in our province thoroughly investigated which bicycle leasing partner would be the best fit and chose o2o. I completely trusted their homework, so I chose o2o as well. And I haven’t regretted it for a moment.”
What made the difference for you?
Ruben: “The guidance provided by o2o. I was worried about a complex start-up, which I wasn’t looking forward to because I had to get everything arranged in a very short time. But there was no need to worry. I received a contract proposal tailored to our public-sector status, a clear overview of the variables and a step-by-step approach.”
“Whenever I contacted o2o, I immediately spoke to someone who knew who I was and what still needed to be arranged. I never felt as though I was asking stupid questions, even though they were probably questions that had already been asked ten thousand times. The excellent support also helped me gain a firm grasp of the leasing process myself. I could reassure colleagues who were still unsure, based on a solid understanding of how it all worked.”
Looking back, how did the launch go?
Ruben: “During the start-up phase, I posted a single message on our internal platform with the link to the calculator, the online tutorials and the deadline for the declaration of intent. That was everything I had to arrange. To be completely honest, I had expected some difficulties: lots of questions from staff, uncertainty about the price and so on. But hardly anything came up, and that is still the case today. For HR and me, bicycle leasing is running like clockwork.”
Was there anything that could have been better?
Ruben: “It makes sense that bicycle leasing comes with a monthly cost, and o2o explained that well. Even so, not every colleague immediately finds it clear. It would help if the overall impact was shown a little more explicitly.”
We have to ask: which lease bicycle do you ride yourself?
Ruben: “I didn’t need a new bicycle straight away, but I’ll start bicycle leasing too in 2027. I’m currently weighing up which brand and model to choose.”
